pondicherry: a below-par bengal mumbaifootball club huffed and puffed to a 2-0 win over indian national football clubin the division ii national football league match conducted by the pondicherryfootball association at the indira gandhi sports complex here on sunday.armenian emil vartazarian (40th) and rameshwar mahato (83rd) were thegoalscorers. bengal mumbai have won two of their four matches while infc havelost all four. the match was expected to be a cakewalk for bengal mumbai proveda huge struggle as the mumbai team suffered a sudden slump in form. chimaokerie, who limped out of the game against air-india after experiencing a jerkin his left knee, was rested on sunday for the tougher battles ahead. andwithout the towering presence of chima, bmfc looked half as good as they wereagainst air-india, much to the disappointment of the club director krishnenduwho had flown in especially for the match. the lack of bench strength wasconspicuous as there was no option in the forwardline and skipper adeshinasadiq, better suited for the playmaker’s role, was used as a striker. thearrangement was more glaring because the central midfield also failed withcrispin chettri showing an utter lack of vision. sushil karthak, the regularcentral midfielder, is a player in the defensive mould while the requirement ofhour was of a creative one. as a result the attack suffered.
